SYNOPSIS
‘A Journey To Stillness’ is a multi-screen installation that dissects the migration experience by drawing on the memories of Ghanaian migrants who moved to London during the 1980s and 90s. The experience utilises collage animations, immersive soundscapes and archival footage to create snapshots highlighting the nuances of everyday life in Ghana and London. The project will unpack the socio-political environment of Ghana during it’s early years of independence with the transformation of Ghanaian highlife music during the 1950s to 1990s running as a parallel narrative; a commodity that was globally exported.

The film is segmented into chapters that are made up of multiple scenes. Each chapter focuses on a decade and place with the effect of creating a montage of life.
OVERALL ART DIRECTION
The film uses a mix of mediums. This includes shot scenes, archival footage, home videos and photos and recreated environments built from cardboard. This not only highlights the mix of sources the project incorporates but addresses gaps in archival materials through re-imagining moments and structures as accounted by the interviewees.

INFLUENCES ON THE FILM INCLUDES:
JENN NKRIU- BLACK TO TECHNO
DARRYL DALEY- BLK SOAP
AMY DOUGLAS- CALL TO CARACAS
OVERALL SOUND DESIGN
In keeping with the raw and tactile textural mix of the visuals, the sound design will embrace the same style. Overall, the sound will be low-fi and use elements of echo, delay and a vinyl crackling effect to further contextualise the visuals. There will be minimal voice over narrations, instead the viewer is guided through the piece by the environmental sounds of each scene.
